NARRATOR: AFB CareerConnect, a program of the American Foundation for the Blind presents: Aaron’s Adventures in Employment. This final episode is “Aaron’s Graduation.”
NARRATOR: It’s the night before graduation. Aaron sits in his bedroom, thinking about how his life will change, as he plays his guitar.
AARON: I can’t believe high school is over! What’s next? I don’t even know if I want to work in health care anymore, I really don’t know what I want to do! (PLAYS GUITAR) I could be a rock star—travel the world, famous…
NARRATOR: (WHISPER) Aaron thinks about graduation and plays his guitar as he drifts to sleep.
(MUSIC UNDER)
NARRATOR: (WHISPER) He begins to dream that he is the lead singer and guitarist in his own music video. His band are familiar friends—the Resume Genie on bass guitar dressed in a turbin, harem pants, and a colorful vest; Commander I.B. Friendly on drums dressed in camouflage; and Flair for Success on keyboards dressed in sunglasses, a cape that sparkles, and his gold championship belt. All members of the band play instruments and dance wildly throughout the song.
AARON SINGS: In a moment, everything changes
your friends, your home, your life all rearranges
Now there is college, soon a career
I don’t know which way to go
But I know my moment is here.
Opportunity is knocking, it’s time to answer the door
I am dressed to impress, tell the world I’m ready for more
Even if the future isn’t clear, my past has brought me here
And the things I’ve learned will take away the fear.
ALL SING: Then I’ll be
Rockin’
Rockin’ down the road of life
Rockin’
Rockin’ till I get it right
No whining or complaining
Only winning and achieving
This is my life
I’ll work it out.
(Verse 2)
AARON SINGS: On this journey, everything matters
The things I say on my resume build a step on the ladder
I’ll work well with others, our future is tied
Respect to give, respect to live
Adjust my attitude for the ride.
Then I’ll be
ALL: Rockin’
Rockin’ down the road of life
Rockin’
Rockin’ till I get it right
No whining or complaining
Only winning and achieving
This is my life
I’ll work it out.
ALL: work it out, work it out, work it out, work it out
(ALARM CLOCK RINGS)
AARON: Where am I? Back in my room? It’s graduation day. Wow! What an awesome dream! I guess I don’t have to know what’s going to happen. My career is a journey I’ll be on for my entire life. I’ll do my best and take things one step at a time. And, I think my first step will be—to graduate!
