Teen Employment Workshop for Students at the Overbrook School for the Blind
Recently, CareerConnect conducted the first of six employment workshops for teenagers who are blind or visually impaired. The first workshop was held on November 28, 2012, at the Overbrook School for the Blind in Philadelphia, PA.
The workshops are based on content from the AFB CareerConnect website, including the Job Seeker’s Toolkit. The Job Seeker’s Toolkit is a free, self-paced, online course that guides teens and adults through the employment process with specific vision related advice.
Here are a few snapshots from the first teen employment workshop. All of the pictures below were reprinted with permission from the Overbrook School for the Blind ©.

Joe Strechay addresses the crowd at the Overbrook School for the Blind.

Joe Strechay handed each participant (35 students and a few staff) a brailled playing card. The cards were used to call on random persons to participate during the presentation. Joe would call out “5 of clubs,” for example, and whoever held that card was called upon to answer.
